"Most men pursue pleasure with such breathless
haste that they hurry past it." ~ Soren Kierkegaard
We at 1000faces are fascinated with the alchemy of roasting coffee. In roasting coffee one partakes in the craft of fusing art and science, structure and spontaneity, the traditional with the intuitive. Through the delicate interplay between flame, steel and bean, we strive to create truly beautiful coffees. 1000faces believes the impact of artisan methodologies on quality is undeniable. Due to this belief, we specifically chose to work on a Diedrich IR-12 with manual controls. This hands-on approach allows the roaster the most intimate engagement with the beans throughout the roasting process. We roast only in small batches, because there is nothing comparable to the quality control offered in small batch micro- roasting. We roast to let the unique attributes of the origin emerge for appreciation and recognition. Furthermore, our intention in roasting is to discover the distinct, invoke the complex, and preserve the integrity of taste and place, one roast at a time. In order to do this, we apply our whole selves to the roasting process carefully overseeing each roast as though it were both our first and our last. |
